Home Remedies for Skin Whitening & Redness

The biggest advantage of home remedies, whether you're using natural ingredients or not, is that you are fully aware of what you're actually putting on your skin and it's also much cheaper compared to creams and treatments. It's hard to find a whitening cream that actually works and even though a treatment would give you a much faster result in a shorter period of time, using home remedies are the most effective and natural ways to lighten your skintone.

The main reason behind the fact that I want to lighten my skin is first of all because I think that light skin is beautiful, but also because my skintone on both face and body is uneven. The skintone on my face is very pale compared to the rest of my body, and therefore I'm trying to even it out rather than whitening it. There are a lot of home remedies and methods for skin whitening, but the following methods are the ones that have worked out the best for me, and since skin whitening can cause irritation I will also share a DIY Facial Mask against redness.

Whitening and Smoothing Face Mask

2 tablespoons of Wheat Flour
1 tablespoon of Honey

Mix the ingredients together until the texture becomes creamy. Add more honey if needed. Apply to face and leave on for about 20 minutes. Rinse with water and massage your face with baby oil afterwards. Use 2-3 times a week.


Benefits

This is not the most effective way to whiten your skin, but it will definitely help to even out your skintone and will also make your face super smooth. Honey has natural enzymes that help restore the skin making it look younger and softer.


Whitening Body Milk

Juice of half a Lemon
Equal amount of Milk

After you have mixed the two ingredients in a container, use a sponge and massage into clean skin in gentle, circular motions for about for two minutes. No need to rinse off. It's recommended to do this 2-3 times a week, but I do this every night before I go to bed.

Benefits
Milk contains lactic acid that will exfoliate and remove dead skin cells and the protein and enzymes in milk will help to moisturize your skin. It will also help to soften the skin to allow the lemon juice to penetrate better. Lemon juice is acidic and will also exfoliate the skin, it works as a natural bleaching agent and helps to fade uneven pigmentation.

This recipe is suitable for both body and face, but I suggest you to skip the milk if you're going to use this on your face since milk can cause breakouts. Squeeze some lemon juice on a cotton pad to use it as a toner and apply in circular motions. Since lemon juice can make your skin sensitive, be sure to use sunscreen during the day. Using sun screen on a regular basis is also one of the most basic keys to protect your skin keep it naturally light.


Facial Mask against Redness

1/4 of a cup of Yoghurt
2 tablespoons of Honey

Mix the two ingredients together. Add little by little to prevent the mask from running off your face. If you want the consistency of the mixture to be thicker, add more honey. Let the mask stay on for about 20 minutes and rinse with warm water. Use 1-2 times a week depending on how red or irritated your skin is.


Benefits
Yoghurt contains natural fats and proteins that will help relief irritation of the skin and reduce the redness from your face. Since you're also using honey, this facial mask will not only reduce redness but also make your skin softer.

Results
After using these home remedies for about a week, I'm surprised that the skintone of my body already is slightly lighter and the skintone in my face is much more even and the redness is almost completely gone. The face masks showed immediate effect, but I guess that I have to give the body milk a little more time to give me a more noticable change. The point is that it works!

I can't guarantee that these home remedies will work for you since the results vary depending on what kind of skintype you have, but they have definitely worked wonders for me. If these remedies don't work out for you at all, there are a lot more home remedies and methods for you to try out. Just try to find a recipe that will work out for your skintype, and be patient.
